Canvas Solaris - Penumbra Diffuse (2006)

It's the first time for me ever to review a CD that contains only instrumental technical metal. This is the second full length release from this US trio. The total time on this CD is 48 minutes. There are 7 long tracks, too long if you ask me. The CD is great but at the same time it's difficult to understand, but maybe it's just because I'm not used to review or/and listens to stuff like this. I feel boring when listening to music like that, and it's difficult for me to compare them to another band, because I do not have a clue how they sound; I mean the vocals are very well hidden behind the tracks. Well, I guess that's why they call this kind of music instrumental metal, but for me to see there's not much metal to it. Some of the tracks are fast and some of them are soft ballades, it gives the CD some variations so it does not sound the same. You can hear every instrument very clear especially the keyboards and acoustic instruments are playing a more important role in the music. I've been told that fans of Zero Hour, Spiral Architect and Cynic should buy this release when it hit the stores on January 17 th . Contact Leo. leo.lab@massacre-records.de for further info.
